So, Minister Howlin is going after 88 allowances of Public Sector workers!
We are moving to the end game in the destruction of political and social balance in Ireland.
The facts are, thousands and thousands of lower grade public servants are remunerated well below the industrial average wage. Public and Civil servants have traditionally relied on these allowances as part of their core pay.
There is still no move to address the obscene salaries of senior Public and Civil servants and this is because of the parity and link between these senior public & civil servants and the salaries of TD’s!
I am very aware of the views of lower paid Public & Civil Servants and they are waiting in the long grass, they have taken all the hits so far and there was a flavour of the ire which awaits the government if they proceed on this path a couple of years ago with the series of one day strikes at the then Dept of Social and Family Affairs, in short, attacks on the lower grade Public and Civil Servants will not be tolerated!!
The only reason the last government and this government have had any success in doing anything to address the crash is that the Croke Park Agreement, with all its flaws, has maintained a lid on unrest in the Public & Civil Services lower grade ranks.
Most lower paid Public & Civil Servants will agree that Croke Park is not perfect, far from it! but, opening it up to attack without negotiation will bring the entire Public & Civil Service down around the governments ears. THAT IS A FACT!!!!
Howlin, the pot is simmering and once it boils over it will be too late!!
